A new king, a new order
Within 24 hours after being appointed as the 7th king of Saudi Arabia following the death of his half-brother King Abdullah (90) on January 23, King Salman (79) deprived a number of senior leadership figures in the Kingdom of their power and replaced their posts with his intimates. In a second round of shuffling of officials at the end of April 2015, a surprise to the international community, he followed the same strategy: further concentrating power on an even smaller group of people.
